Confused by all the different kinds of spikes? We're here to help.
Sprinting Spikes are designed for 400m and shorter events. They are built with the assumption that those that use them will land on and drive off of their forefoot, and do not provide any padding in the shoe, instead opting to provide a highly rigid plate that will transfer any power from the heel to the toe. Sprint spikes, by their nature, are intended to be worn tightly to provide as efficient a transfer of power as possible.

Long Distance Spikes
Distance Spikes are used primarily for events 3000m and longer, though depending on personal preference and biomechanics they may also be utilized in the 1600m. Contrasting with sprinting spikes, these are built to allow runners to land with a midfoot strike or even a slight heel strike for longer distances than their sprinting counterparts by providing a moderately firm foam sole and a more breathable, traditional upper. They are still worn fairly tightly but are more forgiving than sprint spikes.

Middle Distance Spikes
Ideal for the 800m-5000m events, Middle Distance Spikes combine the attributes of sprinting and full distance spikes; tending to encourage forefoot running with a rigid plate in the forebody or along the full length of the shoe, but also featuring the fit of a distance spike and a low profile, very firm foam outsole that allows runners to land with a midfoot stride for the duration of their events. They may also be used by hurdling sprinters who wish to have a cushioned landing.

Designed specifically for field events such as the shot put and discus, these shoes are built to both provide the maximum amount of traction with either the glide or spin technique and to withstand the immense forces that throwing places on the shoe. Their stiff soles provide a stable platform that allows the thrower to keep his or her weight balanced throughout their throw, and the uppers are designed for durability with reinforcing leather and broad velcro straps that assist the more traditional laces in locking the foot down.
